The POY Plant – Expansion and
Technological Upgrade
The POY plant has undergone significant
expansion: 5 new extruders have been
added – 3 employing new technology:
The Cordura extruder
Cordura,
a DuPont brand that we are
manufacturing under license, is a yarn
with high resistance to wear, intended
for a variety of uses. The technology
that we are incorporating at Migdal
Ha’emek is more advanced than that
we previously employed at the plant in
Germany.
The new extruder has 4
heads and manufacturers 4 tons a
day – 150,000 km of Cordura yarn!

FDY (Fully DrawnYarn) extruders
This is a complex technology for
manufacturing fully drawn yarn, with
higher strength than that of the yarn
manufactured in POY. One of the new
extruders is intended to manufacture
the black yarn”.
An additional upgrade in the POY plant
was performed on the “A” line with an
investment of about 3 million dollars.

The setup stage was led by
Regev Amir
,
Manager of Engineering,
Projects and Energy. The project
combined planning, civil engineering, the
manufacture of diverse components,
transport, setup and installation of
equipment, as well as preparing the
energy infrastructures. We set up the
systems in a vacant area of the spinning
plant that was modified for the new
technology and equipment, in parallel to
the ongoing activity at the plant.
In the second stage, senior operators
were trained to work with the new
technologies and others were trained to
fill their places on the existing lines.The
operations and maintenance personnel
handled both the routine work and
the setup project and a great deal of
managerial attention was required from
the management teams headed by the
POY Plant Manager,
DvirVisel
